“Turning pebbles into pearl”…

Well this is really the thing that stocked in my head after the 3-day retreat. Well, it’s been a long weekend for me. I attended Mandaue Bible Church’s ‘New Life In Christ’ retreat at Intosan Resort, Danao City. I have so many things to say about the retreat but let me just point out one of the things that really struck me during the retreat. Well, according to actsweb.org this is the process of how pebbles turn into pearl.

Into the shell of an oyster a tiny foreign body—such as a tiny parasite—finds its way into the soft oyster body. “The intruder, though microscopic, is a source of irritation and pain to the soft body of the oyster. Unable to rid itself of the unwelcome ‘guest,’ the oyster seeks to reduce the irritation by coating it with layers of soft, iridescent mother-of-pearl material from its own shell. Over time, the oyster transforms a painful irritation into a beautiful pearl of great value.

This explanation was almost the same as what Pastor Isaiah said, who is the speaker of the retreat. We have so many pebbles in our lives. Some of them may really hurt us and can create a great wound in our hearts. And worse,  sometimes this pebbles become part of us. Pebbles can refer to persons such as friends, family, your boss and etc. It can also refers to circumstances in your life, struggles or even just simple thoughts in our minds. It can represent many things in our lives. Pebbles are those things that hurts us, give us pains, make us struggle and in short these our things that makes life uncomfortable. Well, I myself have so many pebbles too. But I believe that like in the process of turning pebbles into pearl that God can also turn this pains and struggles of life a venue for growth in our lives. He can turn this pebbles into a beautiful pearl in our lives. But I don’t imply here that process of turning this pebbles into pearl would just be as smooth as it sounds like. I don’t imply that God with a flick of finger(Which He really can) can turn your pebbles into pearl. But I am implying that the road in this conversion would be hard… and it can get harder as the process goes but, there’s a big BUT here, just enjoy the journey towards it because 1st God is with you and 2nd, you are certain what will the result be when the process is done. Yeah I know, its hard to see pebbles as pearls, just like in real life, problems are hard to see as opportunities. But at the end of the day I believe that it all boils down to how we react on these pebbles in our lives. It depends on our mindset and the reaction we chose towards this pebbles.  I believe we just always need to remember one thing, that if we encounter some pebbles in our lives, that soon it’ll gonna be a beautiful pearl…
